I believe developing the airport is extremely valuable for Southend. I and my family support a runway extension and introduction of flights both internal and to the continent. I hope this consultation results in development and the creation of jobs and revenue for the town. I appreciate that extra noise and traffic is not desirable for residents who will be affected but the town as a whole should benefit from developing the airport. the development will fit in well with stadium plans and further development of the Fossets corridor - hopefully including transport links.

I agree that the growth and vitality of the Airport is important to the economic development and propsperity of Southend and Rochford, bringing much needed jobs in this time of recession, and with a potentially important role to play in the 2012 Olympics. I support the well-considered plans of the Council in these repects.

Rather than ojecting to every single aspect of the preferred plan, in summary the expansion of Southend Airport, whilst creating employment, seems totally unnecessary. Increased aircraft noise is the primary concern, but the situation of Southend in the eastern part of this country will create a bottle neck with regards to the extra traffic. Why do we need another airport in this region when we already have Luton, Gatwick, Stanstead and Heathrow that provide all the levels of services we need with regards to air travel?!?

Why do we need another airport?
Increasing the size of the current airport, given the current level of local population must raise questions about safety, noise, pollution, road congestion and associated road traffic accidents.
What use will it be other than for the fleeting benefits for the 2012 olympics?
Our roads are congested as it is, the introduction of numerous Eddie Stobart lorries will only make things worse.

I fully support the plans, provided it is cost efficient, the building process isn't vastly overpriced, and all environmental factors are considered/catered for. The plans will bring significant growth to the area in terms of finance and employment, as well as improving transport infrastructure which is long overdue. We cannot stop progression and the amount of people living in the area means that we need improvements to roads, public transport, and more employment, especially in today's economic climate. Thank you.

I fully support the whole of the airport's development plan, it has been a long time in
coming and is absolutely vital to ensure its
future.
I do not agree with SAEN and do not
know why they are suggesting they represent
local residents when I as a resident have not asked them too.
My JAAP concern is the surrounding development
of industrial/commercial facilities, I think we should look at existing areas around the Rochford and Southend that are currently under utilised first.
I would also expect some road improvements to Progress Road and Kent Elms junctions to allow
better flow of traffic to accomodate extra traffic.

The JAAP is fatally flawed from the outset in ostensibly (1)inviting a full public consultation inclusive of residents and stakeholders as recommended joint council policy which Southend Council later ignored and (2) Apparently having a pre-determination to select a front-end choice of preferred strategy for high-growth plus runway extension which rendered the consultation meaningless by ignoring the majority respondent view.

STRONGLY OBJECT TO ALL EXPANSION. Do minimum or preferably no expansion. The increase in aircraft noise for us residents will become intolerable, emissions will increase. The road system cannot cope with current traffic levels. If 2m passenger movements are reached this will require about 4000 extra car journeys per day!!! Imagine the road upgrading work for the next few years that would be required. This area has a high percentage of elderly people who hardly fly. Who will the expansion benefit, people flying from outside the region and the business people and major shareholders who will make millions of pounds.

I AM STRONGLY AGAINST THE EXPANSION OF THE AIRPORT .the position of the airport is FAR FAR to close to residential areas .the noise and pollution will be unbearable . .the infrastructure is at creaking point as is without 1 to 2000000 extra people clogging it up further . the stated aim of 2000000 ppy equates to approx 40 flights a day .this is way to many .these flights will be dumping tons of pollution into all our childrens air .

I strongly object to the airport's expansion proposals.
I dont feel the results from the current questionnaires will be representative of southend and rochford populations. I want to see a reprentative independent survey conducted about such an important matter that will impact all of our lives.
The councils and airport have given us a chance to respond to this document - however assumptions include that residents:
a) are aware of exact proposals in order to make views known - I expect the majority aren't fully informed;
b) fully understand the IMPACT;
c) are able to make a comment on the website

I am against expansion of the airport on noise and quality of life grounds.
I have read a hard copy of 'Preferred Options', and, despite the techno-speak, discover that although mentioned in a few places, there is little real concern shown for the effect expansion of the airport will have on 10s of thousands of residents, in particular those on the flight paths. The Marine Estate is one area which will suffer greatly if there is any increase in activity at the airport. Moving up to 2 million passengers per annum, and night cargo flights, not to mention increases in maintenance and testing flight, would be totally unaccepatable. The positioning of the airport, unlike others in the SE eg. Luton & Stansted makes overflying a large residential area inevitable. The reference to 'quiet' jets in the report is a red herring. There is no such thing as a quiet jet. Only a quieter jet. I strongly oppose any expansion of the airport: mainly on noise and quality of life grounds. Also property values are a major concern.

I hereby register my husband ad myself's total objection to expansion of any kind to Southend Airport.
1. Increased passengers = increased aircraft = increased noise, however efficient the aircraft.
2. I already suffer from regular sleeplessness, causing exhaustion on occasions. Night flights will simply increase this condition to the detriment of my health.
3. Re-routing Eastwoodbury Lane will simply provide a longer stretch of road in which the increased traffic can grind to a halt.
Consultation, what consultation. 'Takeoff' clearly suggests that the proposals in full WILL go ahead. Why treat us like idiots.

I think the expansion of the airport is a typical knee jerk reaction by Southend Council. No consideration has been given to the effects on the residents of Leigh ( As Always). I live on the flight path now and am affected already by aircraft noise and polution. The A127 will be a permanent car park, The airport area is not big enough for 2m people passing through. I say no, leave it for the light aircraft only!

The airport has the potential to be a very valuable asset for southend. You only need to look at the consequences for Graet Yarmouth in Norfolk when the council to do invest in an opportunity untill too late (outer harbour). Norfolk line left so did the roll on roll off ferries and all that was left was a run down port area with a few small shipping movements a day and few jobs, sound familiar. Dont let Southend turn into yet another deprived sea side town.

I object to the growth option with extension of the runway being classed as the preferred "following consultation " as there was vey little public awareness and consultaion in the southend area - which would be negatively effected by this option. Council minutes show limited support for this proposal also, adding to the sense that there was not sufficient consultation.

My family is totally against the expansion of the airport as this plan is not feasible and is being rushed through by people acting in their own interests and not those of the community as a whole.
This is simply mindless destruction of the environment fuelling greed and profit at the expense of honest citizens.
It would be in the public's interest to know how long Stobbarts intend to hold ownership of the airport for the long term commitment to this area.

Object to the airport expansion. No independently assessed, business case has been put forward regarding the benefits to the local community. Weight this up against the negatives: increased air and noise pollution for residents and especially school children; a nail in the coffin of trying to make Southend a destination (which would generate far more sustainable benefits); sheer congestion on the roads and rail; there already exists an established airport in the county (Standsted); harm to the eco-system; and the bewildering closeness of residential areas close by the airport. Object to the airport expansion. First and foremost, no proper, independently assessed, business case has been put forward regarding the benefits to the local community: more jobs, possibly, but many of these will be highly specialised and the recruitment net will be cast much further afield. Weigh this unsupported benefit up against the negatives: increased air and noise pollution for residents and especially school children (flight paths pass over many schools in the area); a nail in the coffin of trying to make Southend a weekend tourist destination (which would generate far more sustainable benefits to the area: who goes to visit Stansted for a break?); sheer congestion on the roads and rail (Southend is geographically the wrong place to pick for an airport being on a 'peninsula' for want of a better word) - adding to the pollution further; there already exists an established airport in the county (Standsted); harm to the eco-system (being an estuary); and the bewildering closeness of residential areas close by the airport. How can this white elephant be considered while one of the longest pleasure piers in the world rots in the Thames? There's real opportunity to bring prosperity to local residents, rather than a few shareholders, but, with the airport, you're looking in the wrong place.

The "Report Summary of Responses to Consultation" for the first phase of consultation on the JAAP indicates that "Despite some support, the majority of respondents were opposed to Scenario 3." It is therefore utterly ridiculous for RDC and SBC to describe phase 2 as the "Preferred Options" while pursuing the least popular Scenario.
Aviation expansion is inherently unsustainable due to limited resources (i.e. Peak Oil) and pollution emitted by aircraft (e.g. causing Climate Change). Any Sustainability Appraisal that supports the expansion of Southend Airport must therefore be wrong.
