New Local Plan: Spatial Options Document 2021

Representation ID: 37486

Received: 28/07/2021

Respondent: Mr Neil Stone

Representation Summary:

None of the Hockley/Hawkwell sites are suitable as they involve the destruction of Green Belt land. The only development permitted should be on brownfield sites, but the Council doesn't have the vision to do this. Its easier to allow developers to take the easy option and build on land that makes life in Hockley worth living. No consideration has also been given to the lack of space in local schools, doctors surgeries and so on

Full text:

None if the proposed sites within Hockley or Hawkwell are suitable for any form of development as they either involve destruction of agricultural land or woodland. Hockley is a village and development of the sort proposed would ruin the whole feel of the village. The proposal to build houses behind Hockley Primary school is particularly ridiculous as there is no access. the only way to gain access would be to bulldoze a road through an area of woodland, take a private road into public ownership, to build a road through the playing fields of Hockley Primary or to destroy Hockley Community centre. The access road to Hockley Community centre is a narrow road with housing close to the road. This leads to Buckingham Road, which already has traffic issues with cars driving too quickly and noise pollution from existing traffic. This would exacerbate these issues considerably causing distress to residents
