Hockley does not need a new centre, the shops suit the village atmosphere and with good transport links to Rayleigh and Rochford any expansion of the shopping area will seriously impact the current long established businesses and would only succeed in taking business from Rayleigh and Rochford. It would make much more sense to redevelop the single story existing shops which would improve the appearance but still retain the current village atmosphere.
