Hockley does not need a new centre, the shops suit the village atmosphere and with good transport links to Rayleigh and Rochford any expansion of the shopping area will seriously impact the current long established businesses and would only succeed in taking business from Rayleigh and Rochford. My wife and I have lived in Hockley for over 20 years. We chose to live here as we felt that it was the type of place where young children could grow and develop in a community environment. We are proud of the character the village has retained, notwithstanding the extensive development that the area has seen during our time here. We fear that the introduction of a sizeable supermarket would totally destroy the 'village feel' which (is but one, of many reasons) makes Hockley such a desirable place to live. The supermarket is not needed and will only serve to drtract from the area, not enhance it. ALL residence in Hockley have easy access to an array of supermarket and shopping facilities, especially now with both a Co-op & Sainsbury in the village.

In view of the above, I strongly object to the proposed development.

Spa Road is a bottleneck most days, the road and all surrounding roads are too narrow to cope with the traffic and pedestrian crossings now, a major store will bring in even more motorists from outside the area, I believe that a serious accident is inevitable.
