Q2. Do you agree with our draft vision for Rochford District?

The point I feel most challenged by are concerns that 'rural diversification' and the development of housing projects will affect bio diversity and community cohesion in rural areas. The provision of shopping, community and leisure facilities in these communities and in neighbouring towns especially around Rochford is constantly narrowing (despite numerous large scale housing projects in recent times). I support small scale projects for necessary provison to low income or first time buyers but fear that most projects will be executive housing.

There should be extensive support for the airport and it's retail park. The airport provides and important difference to many other communities across the region and is a point of pride. I feel a short term challenge to the travel industry should not lead to alternate use to the site and it should be supported over the medium term until it is overcome.

Strategic Option 1, Town centres provide the greatest diversity, job opportunities and facilities for first time buyers, the elderly and low income families. As we have spread our town developments away from town centres we have seen more and more traffic and a continuing collapse in town centre occupancy. Putting communities back in to these towns is the best way or regenerating them. We should concentrate on repurposing land already with infrastructure already to support it. The council are the guardians of our rural and natural land and it should be seen as a last resort to develop land.

The areas outside of our towns are farming areas and one of the distinct features of our regions. As food supply becomes more challenged we should look at the long term implications of food supply and bio diversity ahead of building in rural areas.

I feel that there is little statistical clarity for the need for housing and the sort of housing types needed. I would expect all national busiliding guidelines and modern and modern builds with energy efficiency but I think that the community needs appropriate facilities to fit these demands and haven't seen any growth in these despite numerous projects in recent times.
