It was stated at the 24 March meeting that the Council is unable to compel transport companies to run bus routes. If people are to be encouraged away from cars, how will the Council encourage bus use if the bus companies do not run suitable routes (I'm thinking of the Arriva 7&8 debacle)? Making it difficult to use cars does not encourage the use of public transport. Slough tried this, restricting an office development for 300 people to 100 parking spaces. No suitable alternative transport was available and the office could never fill its complement of staff.

It became clear with comments made at the 24 March meeting that many people had not received documentation asking for their views. It was suggested that the consultation period should be extended. I can confirm that my family - who live directly opposite the airport in Rochford Road - have NOT received the "have your say" document. Neither have I or my staff (although we live in Hullbridge and Hockley). Perhaps the consultation period should be extended?

There does not seem to be any consideration with regards to the Sutton Road/Purdeys Industrial Estate area. Congestion is already bad around the Sutton Road/Southend Road and Sutton Road/Purdeys Way junctions. What considerations have been made for the effects of increased traffic flow in this area?

The Purdeys Way Industrial Estate seems to receive no consideration in the plans; indeed, it is not even shown on the "Areas of Change" map. Buildings on Purdeys Way will be effected by noise from flights - I can hear flights even now through my (double glazed) office window. Has any consideration been made to the effects of staff working on the Purdeys Way Estate?

The statement "It is expected that development will make a contribution to the establishment of an appropriate bus service" is very vague. In planning a major project such as this the word "expected" should not be in a planning document. Can the Council assure the public that agreement in principle has been reached with local bus operators to offer enhanced bus services to and around the airport and - just as importantly - airport industrial areas?

Given that currently industrial parks in the area are poorly served by public transport has the Council considered specific bus services for the industrial estates? This has been done to some success in other regions (Reading International Business Park for example) with subsidised buses linking the industrial estates with the town centre, railway and bus stations.
