London Southend Airport and Environs Joint Area Action Plan Preferred Options

Representation ID: 5563

Received: 25/03/2009

Respondent: Recognition Express

Representation Summary:

It was stated at the 24 March meeting that the Council is unable to compel transport companies to run bus routes. If people are to be encouraged away from cars, how will the Council encourage bus use if the bus companies do not run suitable routes (I'm thinking of the Arriva 7&8 debacle)? Making it difficult to use cars does not encourage the use of public transport. Slough tried this, restricting an office development for 300 people to 100 parking spaces. No suitable alternative transport was available and the office could never fill its complement of staff.
