1.2 What will the Joint Area Action Plan (JAAP) include

Representation ID: 2221

Received: 08/08/2008

Respondent: George Crozer

Representation Summary:

The JAAP does not take into account the adverse impacts on communities on the south side of the River Thames especially the Hoo Peninsula. The JAAP does not take into account the adverse impacts on amenity caused by noise and loss of visual amenity in this tranquil area. I know that residents in the area have already had reason to complain to Southend Airport about the lowflying of Flybe aircraft into Southend from Jersey
The JAAP does not appear to take into account the adverse impacts of CO2 emissions from aviation, not just locally but nationally and internationally

1.4 Policy Context for the JAAP

Representation ID: 2223

Received: 08/08/2008

Respondent: George Crozer

Representation Summary:

Whilst there may not be any obvious impacts on any Natura 2000 sites (or Ramsar sites) within the JAAP area, the authorities should still consider whether assessment needs to be undertaken relative to potential direct or indirect impacts on Natura 2000 sites in surrounding areas.
I object to the proposed expansion plans due to the contribution it will make to climate change and the impacts this will have on biodiversity.
There is a clear need for national and local government to act to prevent damaging climate change.

3.1 Vision

Representation ID: 2224

Received: 08/08/2008

Respondent: George Crozer

Representation Summary:

There should be no expansion of aviation
No
I object to the proposed expansion plans due to the contribution it will make to climate change and the impacts this will have on biodiversity.
Any expansion at airports in the Thames Gateway will make it difficult, probably impossible for the Thames Gateway to achieve its emissions targets

3.2 Objectives of the JAAP

Representation ID: 2225

Received: 08/08/2008

Respondent: George Crozer

Representation Summary:

No because the wider environment is not considered in the objectives.
This objective could be expanded to consider protecting and enhancing the whole environment with particular emphasis on climate change
Aviation is the fastest growing sector in terms of UK emissions, and the European Commission points out if current growth continues emissions from international flights from EU airports will have grown by 150% from 1990-2012
It is time for local, regional and national government to act to prevent damaging climate change

Q.3.3 Are there any other additional objectives that might help to guide the selection of the preferred option/options and JAAP?

Representation ID: 2226

Received: 08/08/2008

Respondent: George Crozer

Representation Summary:

YES
The REDUCTION of the emission of greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change
Human-induced climate change poses the biggest long-term threat to global biodiversity. Studies have indicated that one third of land based species could be on the pathway to extinction by 2050 unless immediate measures are taken to curtail increasing emissions.

4.2 Issue 1: The future development and role of London Southend Airport

Representation ID: 2227

Received: 08/08/2008

Respondent: George Crozer

Representation Summary:

We are not obliged to cater for the predicted demand for air travel. The sector makes a disproportionate contribution to climate change and should be included in targets for cutting emissions
There should not be an assumption that there is a requirement to develop the airport at all
Options 1, 11 and 111 will undoubtedly act as drivers for increased CO2 emissions at a time when
national, regional and local government should be acting to prevent damaging climate change.

There is NO need for any future expansion of the airport it would be unsustainable given the the need to cut greenhouse gas emissions and the escalation of fuel prices, indeed the 2003 aviation white paper based all of its future predictions on an oil price of $20 a barrel

Representation ID: 2229

Received: 08/08/2008

It is NOT sensible to rely on one major employer in any area as downturns in the aviation industry would be disastrous for employment.
