Park and ride is a sensible approach to helping to reduce traffic and ultimately pollution in congested areas. With a regular efficient service, this would be a sensible plan.

The creation of a huge car park to support the 1m-2m passengers a year will be a huge blot on the landscape. If it must be built then it must be very well screened from the surrounding area via appropriate landscaping.

Too many cars. How will local people be able to go about their day to day living when they get stuck in traffic, and this is happening now. Come and visit Hockley at rush hour times. I cant even get out of the end of my road easily anymore.

Excellent proposal. Southend desperately needs a modern and efficient park & ride. Proposal needs to ensure there is more than ample car parking though.

I object to the lack of thought and information given to Eastwoodbury Lane residents, we cannot cope with more traffic and we may lose the little bit of green area we have.
I object to the lack of thought and information given to Eastwoodbury Lane residents, we cannot cope with more traffic and we may lose the little bit of green area we have. At what point will the development of the Airport and changes to Eastwoodbury Lane be discussed with the residents in Eastwoodbury Lane? I live in the lane and the traffic is horrendous now, this can only get worse! The A127 will not cope with further traffic, what proposals are there to improve this? People will not get on a train with children & suitcases, they will use the car. The car will get stuck in a jam on the 127, flight missed!! Please could someone, anyone, consult with the residents, will our road be closed? If so how will I get my children to Edwards Hall School without hitting a jam in Nestuda way or on the roundabout at the junction with the 127?

This is an outrageous suggestion. Currently we enjoy very liitle in the way of green open space and this proposal will rob us of a large part of what we do have. We curretly enjoy a variety wildlife around us; that will go! Local residents now face the prospect of a view over a car park rather than over fields. Words cannot express our concern!

Whilst seeing the need for additional parking if the airport is to expand, it is essential that this be well landscaped to prevent what was once an area of beauty becoming a monstrosity.

This is currently recreational facilities and agricultural open space. The proposal is to urbanise this with a park and ride facility and business development.
Further loss of precious open green space should be defended against.

A park and ride system is a good idea if it goes from Nestuda Way to Southend via the A127 or to Rayleigh, but to just go from Nestuda Way to the airport is going to block an already congested Eastwoodbury Lane area.

A large area will be given over to carparking on a grand scale. More concrete & a total eyesore. Increased traffic volume, congestion & rising carcenogen levels, not the best environ to be living in. The locality is totally unsuitable for airport expansion and all the requisite requirements.

STRONGLY OBJECT TO ALL EXPANSION. Do minimum or preferably no expansion. The increase in aircraft noise for us residents will become intolerable, emissions will increase. The road system cannot cope with current traffic levels. If 2m passenger movements are reached this will require about 4000 extra car journeys per day!!! Imagine the road upgrading work for the next few years that would be required. This area has a high percentage of elderly people who hardly fly. Who will the expansion benefit, people flying from outside the region and the business people and major shareholders who will make millions of pounds.

Fully support the creation of a park and ride scheme. Must be plenty of parking space and shouldbe well landscaped. Similar system in Ipswich that I use works extremely well and is popular with residents and visitors alike.

There should be no provision for park and ride facilities as the building of the new rail station was to provide the passenger access to the airport.
Existing roads are already overloaded with traffic without incouraging an increase in volumes.

yet more green belt grabbing and being so close to a dense residential area the night time light pollution and general air pollution will be insufferable. And how are 2 million passengers going to get to the park and ride? along the A127 which can barely cope with current traffic levels

This will have a negative on:-
1. Environment (noise and pollution)
2. Wildlife and greenbelt
3. Surrounding residential properties
4. Public Services (Health and Education)
5. Infrastructure (congestion)
I dont believe the sweetner on job creation given the current climate so dont be fooled by this one. I can't see many companies wanting to invest in this proposal.

I would support a "Park & Ride" if it were to be a totally separate issue, serving Southend Hospital, or any of our town centres that are dying for want of customers, yet whose customers stay away for want of parking spaces...but I would not support it as a way of taking people to and from an expanded airport.

Eddie stobart does not do passenger flights. I don't think this idea would get off the ground as there would be no demand - flights from Stansted Luton and City airports are within easy reach and doubtless offer far better value for money to travellers. This is a smokescreen designed to make people think they might get some benefit out of having a passenger airport on the doorstep - it would not work out that way!!! NO to Airport Expansion.

I think that a park and ride scheme may be of better use in reducing congestion/pollution levels if it was established further outside the urban area, ie: around the A130 junction area.
Combined with SERT buses, this could give better access into central Southend, and play a role in reducing the level of pollution from the main roads in the area.

As stated in the Department for Transport Circular 1/2002, outlining development guidelines within Public Safety Zones (PSZ), new Park and Ride schemes should not be located within a PSZ. As can be clearly seen from the JAAP Proposal Map the new Park and Ride scheme will lie within the PSZ and infringe DfT guidelines. In addition, the rerouting of Eastwoodbury Lane to accommodate the proposed runway extension, will mean a further increase in traffic on Nestuda Way. DfT guidelines suggest changes to transport infrastructure which will entail a substantial increase in traffic within the PSZ should be avoided.
