I fully support the expansion of Southend Airport. I hope that GA remains a part of Southend. Good for employment growth and sustainablity.
I wish to see Southend (EGMC) returned to how it was in it's hayday. I could go to places on 737's out of Southend. I know of business users who have to land at London airports to come to Shoebury. It would make much more sense for them to be able to come to Southend direct. I hope that there will still be a place for General Aviation (light aircraft) at Southend. I think that people who live near the airport should not worry as we have had 737's before, and if you move near an airport, you should expect to see/hear aircraft. As the expansion will have minimal effect on the neighbouring area, I am in full support of it. I can understand people complaining about major disruptions like at Stanstead, but at Southend it is a simple solution to local employment growth.

We need to know the agreed baseline level of 'noise impact' in the Environmental Impact Assessment as soon as available. Nothing should be agreed until the majority of those affected have been consulted.

THERE A SEVERAL ISSUES WHAT WORRY ME WITH REGARD TO EXPANSION OF THE AIRPORT. FIRSTLY THE NOISE. ALTHOUGH QUIETER AIRCRAFT WILL BE USED, IF THERE ARE EXPECTED TO BE MORE THAN 2 MILLION PASSENGERS PER YEAR, THE NOISE LEVEL WILL RISE WHATEVER AIRCRAFT ARE USED. SECONDLY THE A127 CANNOT COPE WITH THE TRAFFIC NOW, WHAT WILL IT BE LIKE IF THE AIRPORT GETS PLANNING PERMISSION. WE WILL BE GRIDLOCKED ON A PERMANENT BASIS. LIVING HERE WILL BE ABSOLUTE HELL. WILL WE BE GIVEN GRANTS TO INSTAL SOUND PROOF GLAZING. I THINK NOT

We have read the proposed policy for the expansion of the airport, we can see no reason to object to it.
We hope people using the new station for commuting to London will be sympathetic to the residents living in the surrounding roads for parking, other than that we support the policy.

detailed information should be provided to the residents of both Southend and Rochford to establish anticipated noise contours for both proposed night flying and day flying.
Without this information residents cannot provide an objective view on the disruption and nuisance that may be caused by the proposed expansion.
What safeguards will be put in place in repect of the generalised blight resulting from the need to expand the operational areas required.
what consultation is due to be carried out for residents. Will residents be offered support on diminshed property values within the noise contour areas.

Aiport / air travel expansion is unjustified given the current state of global warming which will suffer as a result of pandering to big business profit. In addition large expansion with associated greater capacity will cause enormous environmental and safety issues

Long over due
Competition for London City
Place Southend on the map
Increase employment which is sustainable
The concept of better air facilities for South Essex have long been discussed, going back to when Maplin Sands was an option. It is clear that similar ideas are again being considered i.e land reclamation to reduce noise polution and increase safety.
If that concept has genuine support and is likley in the years to come to come to fruition it is still going to be some 10-15 years before it is in place. Southend airport facilities will be a very capable option on the meantime. {unless alternative ideas are shelved in which case Southend will be a permanent option}
City airport needs greater competition to the continent and with the improved rail facilities Southend will become a great option too.
Furthermore, the increase in employment and tourism will only go to place Southend more indelably on the map.
Its been 'about' to happen for years. Lets just get it going and get it done and reap the benefits as soon as possible.

Development of the airport is a big bonus to the people of Southend and the rest of Essex. The number of jobs that will be created is fantastic and the opportunity to fly to many destnations across Europe from our local regional airport will be useful for both holdaymakers and local business people.
I believe the prefered option put forward in this document by the councils is the best and only route to take with the JAAP.

I have no desire to have the value of my home reduced and to have planes flying over my house every 10 minutes. This planned extension will ruin my home life and as a first time buyer and being new to the property ladder would present me with difficulty in selling my home in order to move out of the area. Traffic is already bad enough in the area as it is and with the current emphasis on reucing CO2 emmissions, hw can it be justified that the UK requires ANOTHER airport to increase the amount of air travel

No expansion to an airport is possible without serious environmental impact. Using the term "manage the impact and "environmental constraits" and so forth is a complete nonsense-It simply can not be done.

The environmental impact of this proposed development will be a disaster. The expansion of transport links for a proposed 2 million passengers in a semi rural residential area will be ruinous. The A127 is already unable to cope with current traffic levels. The rail link to Liverpool St is unable to cope with the current level of commuter traffic and is close to break down. Conjestion levels are currently unacceptable. There seems to be an unwillingness on the part of both local and national government to understand that further expansion schemes such as this are extremely harmful and unmanageable.

This policy seems to carry no weight or credibility. How is the agreed noise impact baseline level to be defined/measured and between which parties is it to be agreed? Am I as a resident to be asked if I agree with the noise assessment? If planning permission for development is to be granted only provided that an "on-going Environmental Impact Assessment" is acceptable how can a submission be made in July 2009? What is the time scale for this assessment and how is it conducted without arranging for aircraft to fly low over Southend as they do for the airshow?

The Councils have already conducted the first (front-end) phase of public consultation to select the 'preferred' option. Analysis of responses by Rochford's own planning Dept shows that most did not want the high-growth/extension. as announced by both Councils on 16th Feb.You can see the analysis for yourselves on the Rochford website. What is the point of continuing with further consultations if they will be similarly treated if the 'wrong' result comes through.

The flight paths over builtup areas, especially over Leigh, where incoming flights are already very low and noisy, would become intolerable with such an expansion. Even with 'new quieter planes' the noise levels from early morning to late at night would blight a large populated area. In addition the access routes of A13, A127 and rail links are all already at breaking point and could not cope with such an expansion. This is a plan which should not be allowed to go ahead.

The A127 would not be able to cope with the extra traffic especially during the peak times - accidents and gridlock is frequent on this road.Late too and from work and late for flights. As for the new proposed railway station who would want to travel by train with heavy suitcases and children and not get a seat. Why come to Southend when they would probably pass Luton Stanstead Gatwick and City airports? The only people who are going to use Southend are local people.
