London Southend Airport and Environs Joint Area Action Plan Preferred Options

Representation ID: 5230

Received: 12/03/2009

Respondent: Mr Keith McLaren

Representation Summary:

Please consider the infrastructure, no a silly station is not going to bring in passengers - the proximity of stations at Gatwick, Heathrow and Stansted do not reduce car travel to and from these airports - and prove my point. The A127 cannot cope with existing traffic, let alone any increase, however small.

I must admit I have had trouble, failed, to find a way of commenting directly from your website, so the views of my wife and I follow

We do not wish to see any additional flights from Southend airport, we have lived in the town all our lives, remember Channel Airways and this era, and while we accept aircraft are, mostly, quieter than they were, although not usually cargo planes as they are normally older aircraft converted from passenger aircraft.

We live almost under the flight path near to Southend Hospital, close enough to be really affected by noise, my wife's mother even closer.

The REAL point though is this - we do NOT need any enlargement. With the proximity of 4 London airports there are enough. Also, there is only so much airspace

Please consider the infrastructure, no a silly station is not going to bring in passengers - the proximity of stations at Gatwick, Heathrow and Stansted do not reduce car travel to and from these airports - and prove my point. Increase in jobs, I think not, just a red herring to make the project sound good

Overall, I cannot see there could ever be the demand for passenger flights from here, in any real numbers, because there will be better, cheaper alternatives at least from Gatwick and Stansted and even Luton.

In summary, stop wasting money on studies, the people do not want this project (it keeps raising it's ugly head every few years, to worry the locals, then dies a natural death until next time - this time, please kill it off for good.)

As you may have guessed, I am against any increased activity, keep the maintainence business as is and cargo such as may be. Nothing in or out between 21:00 and 07:30 please.

Thank you for your time, Keith McLaren.
