Hockley Area Action Plan - Issues and Options

Representation ID: 4802

Received: 27/02/2009

Respondent: Mrs Kay ILOTT

Representation Summary:

keep the current sized supermarket but provide a larger car park to accomodate it. Also move it (Supermarket)to Eldon Way to make room for other retail outlets in Spa Rd
to provide further parking, the current building, housing what was 'Alldays' (nth side Spa Rd) could be demolished
keep the old architecture which makes Hockley 'village' appealing to it's residents but refurbish & tidy up
have a village green in Eldon Way as a focal point to the village which would enhance the community spirit already in Hockley-not have the centre square in Spa Rd (N0:1 in all proposals)
remove the industrial part of Eldon Way to make way for the community area as proposed but with a very limited number of residential dwellings e.g. 50 (due to access/exit issue onto Spa Rd)
a suggestion that Spa Rd could be pedestrianised in order to provide something different to most of the other towns around & maintain the village 'feel' is appealing
keeping the type of 'basic' retail provisions i.e greengrocer, butcher, baker, post office with restaurant/cafe premises is important. If a large supermarket is built I believe this really would put those type of shops out of business & would have a detrimental affect on Hockley

Having attended the meeting at Kilnfield House, Hockley, on 26.2.09 with Sam Hollingsworth, I would like to comment further on the proposed options for the Hockley Plan as I'm aware that I didn't say what I would like to see in Hockley centre & put forward some suggestions.
