New Local Plan: Spatial Options Document 2021

Representation ID: 42887

Received: 10/09/2021

Respondent: Mr Richard Sloman

Representation Summary:

I have spoken to Doggetts Farm and they have some extremely encouraging ideas about sustainable green growth, and are willing to use some of their land for carbon negative housing and amenities, this is something that is not only morally right, but it has the potential to raise Rochford Districts profile nationally and potentially internationally. The proposal involves constructing sustainable but importantly affordable carbon negative homes for young families (something not done to scale before in the UK), that will ensure the future of Rochford while protecting our planet for the future. Furthermore the meadows and planting of 100,000 trees in the plan will help to show the housing estates do not need to be high density concrete structures but can create environments we all want to live in. It can serve as a national example for future developments in the UK and would put Rochford on the map and give residents like me something to feel proud about.

Please consider the climate crisis and what Doggetts and international experts are saying about ways to live sustainably in the future. I hope this option will be strongly considered within the local plan.

Consider eco friendly housing and sustainable developments
I live on the Holt Farm estate and work for an international development charity, specifically managing projects tackling the climate crisis in Bangladesh. I’ve spent over 10 years working with communities in Bangladesh who are at the forefront of climate change and gives an idea of what we have to come across the world if we do not change how we live.

Rochfords plan in the next 20 years must considered the impact we have on climate change and plan for our future generations. We act now and accept that there needs to be huge changes in the way we live.
