As noted in the plan, Starlane Pits should be considered. However this site needs more protection from promoted development. The TW development in Great Wakering that runs adjacent to a lake on Starlane Pits Wildlife Site has had a detrimental impact to the biodiversity of the site. In particular, the inadequate drainage strategy has resulted in the lake being drained of a significant amount of water and site sediment has been discharged into the lake. This has resulted in significant algae blooms and killed many fish that are over 40 years. Promoted site CFS057 is particularly concerning for these reasons.
