London Southend Airport and Environs Joint Area Action Plan Preferred Options

Issue 1

Representation ID: 12727

Received: 15/05/2009

Respondent: George Crozer

Representation Summary:

Climate change is the greatest threat facing the planet We are not obliged to cater for the predicted demand for air travel. The sector makes a disproportionate contribution to climate change and should be included in targets for cutting emissions There should not be an assumption that there is a requirement to develop the airport at all
Expansion of Southend will undoubtedly act as a driver for increased CO2 emissions at a time when national, regional and local government should be
acting to prevent damaging climate change

Policy LS2 - Development at London Southend Airport

Representation ID: 12735

Received: 15/05/2009

Respondent: George Crozer

Representation Summary:

object to the proposed expansion plans due to the contribution it will make to climate change and the impacts this will have on biodiversity
As the UK is committed to a reduction in greenhouse gas emmissions I do not
see how any development of the airport in the JAAP can possibly be mitigated. Aviation is the fastest growing sector in terms of UK emissions,
and the European Commission points out if current growth continues emissions from international flights from EU airports will have grown by
150% from 1990-2012.
National, regional and local government need to act to prevent damaging
climate change.
