6. Market
Rayleigh evidently does not support a market; note the decline in use of the site next to 'Barringtons' . The consequences of a market in the High Street, I leave to the imagination.
Pedestrianisation of High Street
Traffic
1. The High Street is wide enough for both pedestrians and traffic.
2. Pedestrianisation is out of the question - traffic problems would more than double.
3. I do not recall seeing any pictures in the report showing 12 wheeled juggernaut lorries, articulated car carriers, double deck buses and other large vehicles using the High Street - as they have to.
4. On that score I believe there was/is a traffic sign at the Weir pointing to Rayleigh saying 'lorry route to Rochford'.
5. Public Transport
Bus stops and a taxi rank should remain in the High Street.

Essentials? Little if any.
Desireabilty? Maybe to some.
Attractions? Cannot see it 'pulling in the crowds'.
