Rayleigh Town Centre Area Action Plan - Issues and Options

Representation ID: 16645

Received: 30/11/2009

Respondent: Mr Patrick Iredale

Representation Summary:

Returning Websters Way to one-way, would be a welcome start as this at least keeps traffic moving Southbound and frees-up dispersal of East and West bound traffic at the junction of Eastood Road.

A mini-roundabout at the top of the High street might also reduce congestion as it does already at the South end of Websters Way. No right turn at the junction of Eastwood Road and the High Street would also reduce delays and congestion.

The current pilot traffic project just does not work. Rayleigh is a nightmare traffic-wise and anyone who drives through it must already know that. I personally avoid going through Rayleigh if at all possible from very early in the morning until late at night.

I have at times spent the best part of half an hour to travel just several hundred yards. This is just unacceptable. and until a workable plan is agreed, drivers (including me) will also continue to use the well known 'rat-runs' to try and avoid some of the congestion.

A mini-roundabout at the junction Love Lane would also help traffic to cross the High Street and those people turning right into Love Lane.
