Due to the proposed operational times of the airport it is obvious that employees will not always be able to utilise public transport that ceases so early in the evenings. Therefore, staff will use their cars - will there be enough space? Consider say the problems this causes at Southend Hospital.

The only green approach to travel is to reduce the need for travel. The whole plan is dependant upon thousands of people travelling to the site to work or to use the airport. The whole scheme is an environmental disaster based upon outdated thinking of concentrated industry and commerce resulting in large numbers of people commuting to work.

There is no mention of cargo vehicles in this plan, as the airport operator is a cargo based business I am certain warehousing and vehicle movements will have a high impact on green travel.

I can tell a lot of thought has gone into green travel plans. Especially as all policies, so far, encourage car/lorry useage on congested roads & increases in noise & air pollution over a very heavily populated areas!

STRONGLY OBJECT TO ALL EXPANSION. Do minimum or preferably no expansion. The increase in aircraft noise for us residents will become intolerable, emissions will increase. The road system cannot cope with current traffic levels. If 2m passenger movements are reached this will require about 4000 extra car journeys per day!!! Imagine the road upgrading work for the next few years that would be required. This area has a high percentage of elderly people who hardly fly. Who will the expansion benefit, people flying from outside the region and the business people and major shareholders who will make millions of pounds.

Current greenbelt boundaries should be defended. There will be more cars clogging up the already congested roads adding to pollution and noise.

I strongly object to the plans to extend southend airport. I do not believe the area needs another airport, particularly one that is in an urban area and will effect many people's lives in leigh on sea, both financially through the fall in house prices and environmentally. Plans to have night flights are totally unacceptable and will be detremental people's lives including children and will effect their education. I for one will be discussing this with my Local MP to stop this ridiculous proposal. A far better plan would have been to move the Hospital to the Airport site!!!

This will have a negative on:-
1. Environment (noise and pollution)
2. Wildlife and greenbelt
3. Surrounding residential properties
4. Public Services (Health and Education)
5. Infrastructure (congestion)
I dont believe the sweetner on job creation given the current climate so dont be fooled by this one. I can't see many companies wanting to invest in this proposal.

How can "Green Travel Plans" even begin to compensate for the environmental damage that the airport expansion will create, even if every employee arrived on a bicycle every day!

A green travel plan - to offset by perhaps a fraction of a percent the environmental and noise pollution of the freight planes?? Excuse the sarcasm but really - you must be joking.

I think it might be useful if the Councils applied some sort of rating inducement, so that businesses that acheive certain levels of excellence in their green travel plans use and acceptance, are financially rewarded for doing so.

Object Policy T6: This is a fallacy - airport expansion is not 'Green': to reduce global warming we should be reducing air travel - the greatest polluter and cars on the road. Inevitably people will drive to work/to the airport increasing car pollution and traffic congestion to unacceptable levels.

Expanding an airport in a highly populated area, in the wrong geographical setting, when the county already has an established airport. Whatever green travel plans you put in place will never pay back the debt owed to the next generation.

I feel let down already that work of some kind is in progress in the Southend Road location. It appears that a decision has been made by Rochford and Southend Councils already.
I strongly object to the expansion of Southend Airport and the changes that are associated with it. This list is a few of the reasons.
Increased pollution. Increased traffic on roads already congested. Increased noise 24 hours no guarantee to limits. Reduction in house values as can already be seen just with the expansion proposals. Increase in freight flights these planes won't be quieter than newer style passenger planes.

In the Southend context, a green travel plan is merely a figleaf which will not impact on the local preference to use the local car. A travel plan is not a replacement for long term, co-ordinated investment in alternative methods of transport.
