Hotel development in this area would be a further boost to the airport operation whilst providing must needed extra hotel capacity within the Southend/Rochford area, along with further employment opportunities.

Hotel accomodation is essential when it comes to an airport as passengers can stay before and after a flight. In addition it will create additional employment to the town.

High growth (Scenario 3) was objected to by the majority of respondents to the first 'consultation' phase designed to select the preferred option in a supposedly democratic manner. The only support mentioned in the summary analysis of those responses (check the Rochford Council website) was medium growth (2a.)

One hotel will not support 2mppa. Further development of this kind will be required in the future. To accommodate further development land will be 'confiscated' from the surrounding area. Erosion of open space/green belt land must be avoided at all cost.

STRONGLY OBJECT TO ALL EXPANSION. Do minimum or preferably no expansion. The increase in aircraft noise for us residents will become intolerable, emissions will increase. The road system cannot cope with current traffic levels. If 2m passenger movements are reached this will require about 4000 extra car journeys per day!!! Imagine the road upgrading work for the next few years that would be required. This area has a high percentage of elderly people who hardly fly. Who will the expansion benefit, people flying from outside the region and the business people and major shareholders who will make millions of pounds.

A modern, purpose built terminal with hotel and other facilities is just what's needed to underpin this expansion. It will be the perfect place to travel from, locally !

I suggest that Southend Airport should be closed down completely and then the question of what to do or not to do with the existing terminal area would not arise.

I agree in principle with the Jaap preferred options, and believe that this would ensure that this corner of Essex is not left out in the cold in the future, and provides development opportunities.
Like most people I may have some concerns about the supporting infrastructure and would ask that we make the best of our opportunities to inprove our roads and make it work for us.
I believe that residents living under the flight path have concerns about aircraft noise and the frequency of flights

2 Million passengers a year is an unrealistic figure as this would require a minimum of 8 flights per hour minimum, a totally unacceptable figure.

I strongly object to the plans to extend southend airport. I do not believe the area needs another airport, particularly one that is in an urban area and will effect many people's lives in leigh on sea, both financially through the fall in house prices and environmentally. Plans to have night flights are totally unacceptable and will be detremental people's lives including children and will effect their education. I for one will be discussing this with my Local MP to stop this ridiculous proposal. A far better plan would have been to move the Hospital to the Airport site!!!

This will have a negative on:-
1. Environment (noise and pollution)
2. Wildlife and greenbelt
3. Surrounding residential properties
4. Public Services (Health and Education)
5. Infrastructure (congestion)
I dont believe the sweetner on job creation given the current climate so dont be fooled by this one. I can't see many companies wanting to invest in this proposal.

Why not support retail? A few more shops would certainly create jobs and be far more appealing to local residents than monstrous freight planes droning overhead day and night. I don't believe the people behind this proposal, and those supporting it, have anything but their own fiscal interests at heart and they should feel deeply ashamed of themselves at blighting this green and pleasant land.

Agree as a general rule that no new retail sites should be built in this area. However provision should be allowed for some limited small retail outlets that may again be needed within the existing terminal curtilage.
