a good idea to be able to bring in modern, less noisy aircraft, and make the airport actually viable.

The extension to the runway in my mind is essential if the airport is to support and attract more business and provide the range required for European passenger flights. And therefore provide more jobs.

I fully support this runway extension as it will, at last, enable the airport to offer declared distances which will enable airlines to operate realistically from Southend. In the past the lack of adequate runway length has deterred many airlines from commencing services from Southend and it will be key to the airport's future success. The operating conditions to be imposed are sensible in that they allow good operational flexibility to the airport operator while at the same time ensuring that environmental problems are minimised.

This is 'must have', so planning permission to extend the runway must be agreed as soon as possible.

If expansion is forced upon local people, the airport operator must be required to pay 100% of all infrastructure construction costs. Making a contribution is simply not good enough.

Extending the runway invites larger planes and more noise. Living in the flight path would be horrendous. Saftey issues are also a concern as demonstrated recently with the crash in the US. Moving the runway to another direction altogether would be a solution.

By utlising smaller airports such as Southend Airport, the UK should not need to rely on the larger airports (Stansted, Gatwick etc). Maybe using Southend Airport for European flights only in order to take this pressure off Stansted and Gatwick. This seems the best way forward for UK airport expansion without causing catastrophic environmental impacts such as Boris Johnson's regurgitated Maplin Airport plan (a truly horrendous idea).

I support a runway extension, but to conform with CAA requirements the runway must also be widened. This will have an impact on certain buildings which are located within the instrument approach procedures protected slopes. Failure to address this issue has been been previously exempted under what is known as "grandfather rights", which will not be approved if thr runway is extended.

Extension will result in larger aircraft creating major safety and environmental issues in the highly populated residential surrounding areas - the recent Turkish airlines incident at Schipol would have been a major disaster at Southend due to the close proximity of residential housing - Schipol is surrounded by open farmland

If the Developer was not taking the existing road to extend the runway a new route would not be required yet they are only being asked
"to make a contribution towards construction".
They should be paying the full cost otherwise it will be you and me as ratepayers who end up footing the bill.

For too long this major asset of Southend has been allowed to decline. I support the new development as part of a rejuvenation process for the area. We need the jobs. Our town is stagnating, firms have moved to places like Basildon whilst we are left as a commuter dormitory satellite for London and an overspill for its homeless. Seedy and downmarket it will remain until the local economy is fed by skilled jobs rather than pound shops and tacky seaside amusements.

I have no desire to have the value of my home reduced and to have planes flying over my house every 10 minutes. This planned extension will ruin my home life and as a first time buyer and being new to the property ladder would present me with difficulty in selling my home in order to move out of the area. Traffic is already bad enough in the area as it is and with the current emphasis on reucing CO2 emmissions, hw can it be justified that the UK requires ANOTHER airport to increase the amount of air travel

why, when the runway extension was refused by the government last time you tried to extend, due to enviromental issues, are you thinking that the same issues won't be brought up this time? Or are the same enviromental issues no longer important?

There cannot be a policy to support the planning permission for the extension of the runway unless the outcomes of the noise impact assessments etc are already known!
How can I as a resident have any faith in this consultation if the decision is already made?

Larger aircraft would be used if the extension of the runway is approved as this area is already highly populated surely the safety of local people should come first.Bearing in mind the recent Hudson Bay and Turkey incidents. This would be a catastrophe if it happened at Southend. What would the councillors and MP's say then.

Already rejected quite recently when it was proposed to move an ancient church and disturb those resting in the graveyard. There are no guarantees in any of this wordage that noise pollution and environmental damage will definately not occur, only a suggestion that the effect will be monitored.

Protect Grade I Eastwood Church from a runway extension too close to it.
The SPAB is a national amenity society which, under Planning Acts, must be notified of applications to demolish in whole or part listed buildings in England and Wales.
In our previous response to the Issues and Options Paper-5.5 Scenario 3 High Growth we welcomed JAAP assurances that any development of the airport would "ensure the the protection of areas and places sensitive to change. " We also welcome the statement in the Preferred Options Paper 2.2 that a high quality environment is one of the objectives.
However this does not appear to be borne out by the proposed extension of the runway and its effect on Grade I listed Eastwood Church. The Proposals Map shows the airport boundary slicing through the south east corner of the churchyard, and coming close to the walls of the church itself. The public safety zone appears to align directly with the edge of the building. Apart from the direct damage to the churchyard we are seriously concerned about the risk to the ancient tower of the church if the runway is extended on its present alignment.

Any extension to the existing runway will put a much larger amount of aircraft, both passenger and cargo, over one of the most densely populated area of Leigh-on-sea. As well as flying over or passing very close to, between 10-12 Schools.
The added noise and pollution in this area would cause,Schools to keep windows shut Summer and Winter, also it would be detrimental to a peaceful environment.

confirming the operation of night flights and extension of the runway to accommodate a significant increase in flights will increase pollution and will only lead to uncertainty in the housing market in the vicinity, which will further depress values/negative equity in the effected areas.

Under NO circumstances should an extension of the runway be granted. From an economic stand point, the current climate would not lead to an increase in the airport's viability and from a health and welfare slant, all inhabitants in the flight path zone would be subjected to increased noise and pollution levels. Greed should not lead to detrimental living standards.
