Hockley Area Action Plan - Issues and Options

Representation ID: 8576

Received: 20/04/2009

Respondent: Father Gerry Drummond

Representation Summary:

'Opportunities may exist to explore how larger retail units might be created' (2.4.2)does not sit well with 'the town centre is of a relatively fine grained scale'(2.5.3). The village feel is maintained by the 'fine grained scale' and the active shopping scene. both will be lost if large retail units are created since they will ruin the fine grain and at the same time put the small traders out of business, as has happened everywhere else. Can ther Council explain why this development will be different to every other supermarket development throughout the world?
