Rochford is a rural area the development would change this and make it a suburb of Southend. Any demand could be met without extending the runway. The railway is already there so why aren't airlines operating now. A 5 minute taxi ride wouldn't deter those who wanted to use the airport. If the catchment area includes London then City Airport has been overlooked. There are existing industrial units and empty office space in Southend. 100 take offs and landings is an unacceptably high volume in a residential area with the associated pollution.
