Section 3-2-5-1 Green Belt Options. Option A
I very strongly support retaining the existing green belt policy in the Core Strategy (GB1).

I am particularly concerned to retain the green belt land in West Rayleigh/Rawreth. In my view too much green belt land has already been released for development in this area, and it is leading towards coalescence between the residential areas of Rawreth and Rayleigh - which is one of the things the green belt is supposed to prevent.

The local planning authority has, frankly, let the communities of Rawreth and West Rayleigh down very badly. It is time now to cease nibbling away at the green belt here, and instead explore ways of giving the green belt in this area enhanced protection.

There seems to be an assumption on the part of the council that the fringes of Rawreth are just an extension of Rayleigh, but this is wrong. Rayleigh and Rawreth are distinct, separate communities, and should be kept as such.

It seems to me that Option B (to amend the current green belt policy) would be a slippery slope and would endanger the safeguarding of the green belt in the Rochford District.
