Respondent: Mr Andrew Omand

Representation Summary:

Objection due to increased traffic volumes on already severely over subscribed roads. 'Playing tunes' with the already inadequate road system will not prevent daily grid lock that will happen should a further 7,000 homes be built.

Having just moved to Hockley, we understand fully the appeal of the area as a place to live. Up to 10 years ago our daughter lived in Hockley too, since then we have been shocked as to how the traffic density has increased within this period of time. When travelling by road, either by car or bus, it can take up to 1 hour just to travel to/or from Hockley to Rayleigh. Just last Sunday (25th February) there were some minor road works just south of Rayleigh high street, it took me 1 hour and 15 minutes to make the journey from Hockley to Thundersley. Without totally new roads, I cannot see how the existing road network can cope with the additional traffic, we are still to experience the effect of the new estates being built close to Rochford now. So until I see a clear plan to improve the road network to cope with the additional traffic these developments will attract, I will continue to object to this plan.
