Rochford District Core Strategy Regulation 26 Draft

Representation ID: 335

Received: 02/07/2007

Respondent: Mr Ivor Jones

Representation Summary:

The design of most new development, especially housing, can only be described as market-driven mediocrity. The Essex Design Guide, whilst pioneering when it was first introduced, tends to produce the same "pseudo-vernacular" even on open sites outside existing centres, where such an approach is not necessary.
I would like the Council's policies to be much more positively aimed at encouraging good modern designs.Traditional designs and materials should of course be specified where appropriate, for example for extensions to listed buildings and in Conservation Areas.
