I would support a more prescriptive approach. I believe that there should at least be guidance, if not prescriptive rules, similar to Policy DM4 setting out how much external space should be provided based on the expected occupancy of the dwelling. It is a nonsense to build a 4 - 5 bedroom house which will accommodate a large family with children and not provide a reasonable sized garden where the children can play in safety.
