We think that you should consider a policy setting out requirements for on-site environmental enhancements including opportunities to create/enhance/restore habitats.
We think that you should consider a policy setting out requirements for on-site environmental enhancements including opportunities to create/enhance/restore habitats.
For example, new developments can represent opportunities to restore/enhance the ecological value of watercourses. Engineered river channels are one of the most severe examples of the destruction of ecologically valuable habitat. We seek to restore and enhance watercourses to a more natural channel wherever possible, as required under the Water Framework Directive. This stance is supported by Planning Policy Statement 1, which identifies development as a means for environmental enhancement, and Planning Policy Statement 9, which aims to restore nature conservation value where it has been lost.
Other opportunities might also be available on individual development sites.
