We would agree with the comments on the limitations of the current town centre bus stops. There is a need for good shelter facilities and, given the success of the concessionary fare scheme, there are accessibility issues with the current stops. The key services 7 and 8 are increasingly operated with low floor vehicles, requiring good passenger access at bus stops.
We would be keen to work with the Council to improve the legibility of the bus stop locations and bus stop information.

We would agree with the view that interchange to Rochford station is poor from southbound buses. However, given the layout of the town centre streets, an amendment to the routing of the 7 & 8 services to improve this aspect would take buses away from the northern part of the town centre. This would therefore need careful consideration before changing well established travel patterns.

In figure 6, it would be more useful to note bus route 7 as running approximately every 10 minutes rather than trying to split the service into routes 7 and 8. The light blue colour could then be removed from the map.

We would agree with the bus service comments in this section. Passenger shelters are a basic requirement for town centre stops to encourage users of buses.

Whichever option is taken forward, we would hope to see alleviation of the current queuing traffic in West Street which delays bus services. The West Street stop is well sited for passengers using Rochford Town centre and the use of West Street then enables access for the Station in this direction.

Unsurprisingly, we would support measures that would ease bus access to the town centre and remodelling or removal of this island would assist safe bus operation.

West Street - Which options do you agree/disagree with?

We would strongly agree with retaining bus access to West Street. This allows good access to both Rochford Town Centre and to the Station in this direction. Many journeys made on routes 7 & 8 are through riders across Rochford. A more circuitous route returning via South Street again would be very likely to deter through users and affect the viability of the services.

Whilst we support and would be pleased to work with the Council to improve signage of the current bus stops in the town centre, we would not support diversion of services away from the Market Square. This is a very convenient stop for bus users accessing the town centre, many of whom have accessibility issues, and we would have deep concerns for the viability of the services if we could not continue to access the heart of the town centre.
