I note that a proposal is included to develop a multi-story car park on the site to the benefit of public parking and accessibility to Rochford Town Centre. This is an interesting concept and one which will require further discussion to fully understand the implications such a development could have on the hospital.
Naturally the primary objective of SEPT is to provide high quality, safe and effective mental health services to the local population we serve. However we do recognise the improtance of town centre regeneration in providing improved facilities, employment and recreational opportunities and access to public services for local people. Whilst my primary concern would be to protect the safety of patients and staff who use the Rochford Hospital facilities, it may be possible to consider some development on the site if this fits in with the health needs of our service users as well as benefiting local people in a wider context.
I am very much in favour of supporting regeneration of the town centre and whilst not commenting specifically at this tage on the other elements of the Rochford Town Centre Area Action Plan, would welcome the opportunity to specifically discuss the Rochford Hospital site and how we might be able to work in partnership for the benefit of local people.
