Hockley Area Action Plan - Issues and Options

2.5 FORM AND STRUCTURE

Representation ID: 15303

Received: 29/04/2009

Respondent: Historic England

Representation Summary:

This part of Hockley is in the main a late ninteenth century/twentieth century development, built after the railway arrived in about 1890. We are pleased to see that two buildings outside, but in the vicinity of, the proposed development areas are highlighted as important and of landmark value, (figure 3. p.15). These are the Spa Rooms, grade II, opposite Eldon Way, the Pump Room for the attempt to develop a local spring into a spa in the mid-nineteenth century, and the Spa hotel at the junction of Spa Road/Southend Road (not presently listed). We support proposals which would enhance the setting of both buildings.

In addition to taking account of these two buildings and enhancing the public realm, we trust that you will consider any archaeological interest that may exist.
