2.4 Transport & Accessibility
Representation ID: 2201

Public Footpath 36 Rochford runs from Aviation Way eastwards across the airport taxiway and continues to link up with the network on Rochford Hundred Golf Course. The Definitive line of this path has not been affected by any legal diversion or extinguishment orders to date and therefore remains available for public use. ECC observation and feedback suggests it is actually well used. Any proposals to alter the alignment should take into account its importance as a sustainable link to Rochford and its amenity and biodiversity value, and consider improvement to accessibility and highway status (such as upgrade to bridleway).

There is an existing well used network of public rights of way. Pedestrian access is quite well connected but would benefit from a link between the former brickworks site and St Andrews Church to provide a green traffic free path for the Roach Valley Way promoted route. The existing equestrian access to the west and north of the study area is separated from that to the east by the road and rail networks. Further routes and road/rail crossing facilities are required to connect existing paths which would also providing sustainable links to Purdeys Industrial Estate.

Issue 4 - Bridleway 10 Rochford would be crossed by the new access to employment area off Cherry Orchard Way. Appropriate separate and traffic free provision would need to be made for bridleway users at this point.

5.3.2 Scenario Assessment

The old Cherry Orchard Lane past the brickworks site is currently lightly trafficked and therefore well used by non-motorised users. Appropriate provision needs to be made for pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians to reduce the impact of the additional vehicle movements associated with such a development. This may necessitate provision of a new separate path.

Issue 4 - Any scheme for the replacement of Eastwoodbury Lane should include sufficient off road provision for pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians.
