2.2 London Southend Airport

Representation ID: 1932

Received: 06/08/2008

Respondent: SE Essex Organic Gardeners

Representation Summary:

It is entirely inappropriate for Southend Airport to model itself on the airport in
Southampton. Southampton is served by motorways from the north, west and east and the
airport is adjacent to one of these. Southend already has congestion problems and
certainly does not have the road infrastructure to cope with the 1 million passengers a year
going to and from the airport that Southend Airport would like to see by 2012, never mind
the 2 million they want by 2030.

Arable land, Green Belt (wherever it is), orchards and allotment land should never be used.

2.5 Environmental character and assets

Representation ID: 1933

Received: 06/08/2008

Respondent: SE Essex Organic Gardeners

Representation Summary:

I am concerned that any increase in passenger numbers at Southend Airport will
increase air pollution beneath the flight path, affecting a number of local schools and
potentially damaging the health of hundreds of local children. The increased noise
pollution throughout an even wider area of the town will inevitably impact house prices and
in some cases the ability of people to sell their houses at all.

Q4.9 What do you see as the greatest potential impact of development in the JAAP and how can this be mitigated?

Representation ID: 1937

Received: 06/08/2008

Respondent: SE Essex Organic Gardeners

Representation Summary:

More flights will mean a lot more over-flying along the landing and take off routes - about 70% of the time planes will land from the east, and take off to the west, with the prevailing wind. More flights, and more expansion, will also mean more emission of greenhouse gases, which is contrary to the UK Government's stated policy of trying to reduce our emissions.

Q4.12 Do you agree with the proposed areas for change?

Representation ID: 1938

Received: 06/08/2008

Respondent: SE Essex Organic Gardeners

Representation Summary:

I do not agree in any way with the proposed changes to the airport or surrounding areas.

On Tuesday 5 August I spoke with a named Planning Officer at Southend BC.

I asked him why the allotments in Rochford Road (behind Somerfield's) are coloured orange on page 30 and then included in 'Areas of Change' on page 50, to which he was unable to reply satisfactorily. There are waiting lists for allotments all over, even at Great Wakering.

I also asked him about St. Laurence Orchard, in Eastwoodbury Lane, to which also he was unable to reply satisfactorily.
