Essex Wildlife Trust is pleased to note that the protection and enhancement of green space of value to wildlife is promoted through the Spatial Vision for the District.
Essex Wildlife Trust offers its support to two specific parts of the Spatial Vision:
1. To promote a green and sustainable environment; and
2. To improve the quality of life for people in the District.
It is clear that Rochford DC takes the protection of green space in the District very seriously - this is to be commended. EWT is pleased to note that Thames Gateway Green Grid strategy (2.5) and the Wallasea Wetlands Project (2.7) are cited in the text of Section 2.

4.3.8 Protection & Enhancement of the Upper Roach Valley Preferred Option

Essex Wildlife Trust supports the protection and enhancement of the Upper Roach Valley in view of the special wildlife value attributed to it. Like the Council, we are mindful that not all areas will be suitable for significant numbers of visitors. Policies should be carefully worded to ensure that opportunities for countryside recreation do not adversely affect biodiversity.
Essex Wildlife Trust supports the protection and enhancement of the Upper Roach Valley in view of the special wildlife value attributed to it. 4.4 Protection & Enhancement of Special Landscapes, Habitats & Species

Rochford District Council have recently commissioned Essex Ecology Services Ltd to conduct a limited review of Local Wildlife Sites in the District. When completed this survey will make recommendations for an updated list of Local Wildlife Sites to be given protection in the emerging LDF. The Council should be aware that this re-survey is limited in its remit, and that further potential Local Wildlife Sites may be identified in the future for inclusion in the LDF.

Essex Wildlife Trust offers its support to the protection and enhancement of the undeveloped coastline, and inland areas of significant biodiversity value (statutory and non-statutory sites plus BAP habitats and species). We agree with the Environment Agency's comments (at 4.4) that opportunities should be sought to integrate biodiversity into development through early dialogue between prospective developers and nature conservation organisations.

Essex Wildlife Trust concurs with the Environment Agency's comments that landscaping proposals should ensure that existing natural features are retained on site, and should seek to enhance biodiversity through the use of native species of local provenance and by linking in with adjacent habitats.

Essex Wildlife Trust supports initiatives to achieve reductions in energy and water consumption. Regarding renewable energy we are generally supportive, but the siting of wind turbines must be carefully considered on a case-by-case basis with respect to potential impacts on wildlife, particularly birds and bats.
